Know someone like this?
Posted by Robin Easton under: Hobnobbin' with Robin .

Over the ages true wise men and woman rarely sat upon thrones and looked down upon the masses. They were free-thinkers, visionaries who followed no indoctrination and often lived simply with little more than rags for clothes. They walked among the people on the street and in the gutter, their hands and heart reached out to touch, comfort and love humanity, including the poor, the troubled and the sick, even their enemies.
Thousands of wise souls walk among us on the street. They are not special sainted people chosen by some god, religious sect or culture. Nor do they necessarily walk the talk-show circuit dragging their books behind them. Some don’t follow any religion or spiritual concepts at all. They are people who simply choose forgiveness, compassion and love…no matter what, and they do so every single day. They are people who choose not to judge — even secretly in the private corners of their mind – another person’s religion, race, skin color, sexual preference, social standing, income and education or lack of.
These men, women and children stand out because they actively live Love. There’s no pomp and circumstance about them. They speak softly from their hearts rather than their brains and thoughts. They offer little concept or theory and rarely spout religious teachings. They speak so directly to the heart of humanity that theory pales in comparison. They don’t talk “at you”, but instead talk quietly “with you” using a language that is so ancient it has no words, the language of Love. They “include” you, let you in close to who they are, and even tell you that they love you. They don’t judge, condemn or preach about how to live life. They just live it. They aren’t selling theories or how to(s). They simply emote the truth from their heart to yours. One tends to “feel” their words, not think about them.
I often grow weary of words no matter how wise or beautiful. I feel it’s far more important to actively live love, more important than a thousand words telling us “how to love”. We have dozens of words, theories, concepts, steps, ways, religions and beliefs, but bottom line? Can we forgive? Can we see “other” as self? Can we lay down our words and concepts and let the world in, let Life in, let Love in? Can we move from our brains back into our neglected hearts,
and the hearts of our fellow beings? I’m not terribly impressed with wise words, but I am profoundly changed by wise and loving deeds. Who in your life is a wise man or woman and actively lives Love, Compassion and Forgiveness?
Love,
Robin

You, unknowingly, stated all the basic principles of my religion…
You asked, “Who in your life is a wise man or woman and actively lives Love, Compassion and Forgiveness?”.
My answer: *YOU* !!!

Dear Alex, I am very touched by this whole comment. I have found many of your shared quotes beautiful, so I am honored. And doubly honored and floored that I am one of the wise people in your life. You have been and still are a wise man in my life well. Your expressions on your blog have helped me to see myself more clearly as I respond to your posts. Thank you for that gift.

Dear old friend, what a treat to see you here. I am honored. I’m also touched by your kind words. Yes, you would definitely know these people as you are a kind soul and would draw the same to yourself. And yes, I too am “always” moved by these qualities. It is akin to the feeling of “going home”. Thank you for the wonderful visit!

Wow! You and I are so in the same line of thinking right now, it’s kind-of scary.
I literally, just got finished watching the documentary “10 questions for the dalai lama.” Many of the things you mentioned in your post is what I heard him say. Peace, compassion, forgiveness… This is a man exiled from his home, watching his people beaten or tortured. Yet, he has compassion for his oppressors and has forgiven them. This is inspiring for the reason you stated above; it’s more than words, it’s the actions as well. I only hope I can achieve a small fraction of the peace he has.
Your post also reminded me of a piece of advice a wise women once told me; “Words are OK, but be a man of action.” Very good advice from my wife.
Thanks again for another inspirational post. I’m so glad I didn’t go to bed just yet.

Hi dear Larry, that’s funny you mention the same wave length as I thought that at your site the other day while listening to the music there. I am touched that you were watching the Dalai Lama. That has to be so hard for him to see what is happening to his people, also hard that he can’t be in his homeland right now. And yet, as you say, he is modeling the highest of virtues, which is very inspiring. I really believe and know that we too can achieve peace. —I love the quote by your wife. Very powerful and unforgettable. And Larry, thank you for this inspiring comment and for stopping in; it’s always a treat to see you.

Ya I don’t see many who live the last advice given to John in Revelation 22:10-11 where he was told to basically let it be and live and let die.-like the Beatles songs. If the MEDIA-RIGHT-STORMS Stone throwing would cease, so would mine. In the mean time I will point out who they are. I think I did.
Robin Replies
Heeey, it’s my dear friend “Mass”! Yes, that old Beatles song is a beauty. So simple and yet so very wise. One of those things that says it all. I don’t think you throw stones so much as educate, and there’s a difference. Just as there is a difference in being complacent and being aware. You are aware and so you educate. Thank you “Mass Rider”.

Who in your life is a wise man or woman and actively lives Love, Compassion and Forgiveness?
My Mum & Dad, Andy (my other half), some long term friends, M, S, F & K. (although I will point out very tongue in cheek here that if you seriously upset any of the guys in this lot, it would not be forgotten, so the forgiveness might be stretching it a little,
)
In the blogging world, there are several too including yourself but I suspect most regular commenters on my blog are incredibly kind and compassionate people.
I can remember my Mum talking to her friend, her friend asked if her if her children were religious and My mum answered “I don’ t know, but I hope they are KIND, I would sooner that they show kindness than adhere to any religion”. At the time she told me I didn’t really understand but I do now! I wish the same for my son…
Thank you for reminding me how lucky I am, it is the beginning of my day and I am smiling, I am lucky indeed to have such fabulous people in my life!

The world is currently being fueled into the mind state of victim versus survivor, blame others versus take responsibility. When fast food places get sued for “making people fat” or burning them because their coffee was too hot it means, to me, things need to change. Media needs to be held responsible for what they choose to promote. we also need to choose to not watch crap or read crap, or promote crap, gossip. Therefore I stand up and take responsibility an ask my clients to do so also!
Robin Replies
Oh dear Tara, yes, taking responsibility is so empowering. We set ourselves free when we do this. We regain our strength, confidence and self-esteem. I love this whole topic of responsibility. Sometimes people think they get even, bring things into balance or “take charge” when they blame someone or something, but I believe they throw away their power and become weak and unclear, dissipated energy. Thank you for your insights.

I knew two persons, a baptist missionary couple from Texas. They are now buried in a small, all-gypsy village (read, real-poor) in Romania.
I preached once in a church he preached too, small, mud bricks, barefoot kids and women. Quite different from the mega-church.
I’d like to write more, but for some weird reason I just can smile about it. Yes, we all need to meet people like those.

Hey Miguel my friend; you are back! This is a beautiful sharing here. It created such simple poignant imagery for me, the all-gypsy village (wow) and the small mud brick church and bare feet. So endearingly beautiful. I felt like you sent me a photograph. I am moved by it.
NOTE TO READERS: I think you would really enjoy Miguel de luis’ site. I loved the last post titled: “How to Make Running Fun Even if You’re Fat” (Click to go to site.) He talks about how we all could do well to imitate kids to help us bring “fun” back into activities that we do, but often do dutifully and not exuberantly. He write: “Imitate the fun masters. Who are the fun masters? Kids, of course. Go to a park, you’ll see adults running a circuit for so many miles or so many minutes. What are kids doing? They race around, arms stretched, pretending to be a fighter plane. That’s fun.”

I like to think that I can learn to be that person for myself. If you can treat yourself with such compassion, it is easier to be that way for others. Most often I am not, but I know that person is in there. The Divine is in all of us….
I am not sure that was what you were asking for Robin, but somehow, as I am judging myself and my art today as I finish a painting, I have to remind myself why I paint… ![]()

Dear Michelle, I love what you shared here. I think it is SO key. It’s often amazing how quickly people can forget to give to themselves the same kindness they give to others. And yet to really give fully and richly to we must embrace giving to ourselves, lovingly, compassionately, understandingly. We must treat ourselves as the miraculous being we are. —RE: as to what I was asking for; what you shared here is over the top and fundamental to true wisdom. I am blessed to have in my life several people just as you describe. These are the people I consider my personal role models, although they shy away when I tell them that. In their eyes, they do nothing remarkable, yet they are truly and magnificently remarkable, indeed, because they seem to be a minority. Two of them are absolutely outstanding in their personal integrity; I’ve never heard them utter a disparaging word about a single person or even event. They question “why”, as do we all, but only to seek understanding, never to denigrate.
Each of these people has issues (and a couple of them are quite harsh and ongoing) yet when I watch how these wise ones flow over, around, rise above, and then continue on—intact—with barely a pause, I’m reminded how important it is to have our purest and loftiest beliefs and faiths and certitudes be the center from which we shine. When things happen (and they do), we can remain solid and grounded SO easily as long as we have touch with the brightness within. Their issues play a part in helping them practice the art of living love. …And they all practice it to perfection. The single most evident thing they all do is to live their lives thinking of the other person first. They give of themselves. They show compassion and empathy in everything they do. They are considerate and helpful, even at the expense of putting off their own needs. Throughout all they do, every day, burdened or not, these remarkable people are happy and cheerful, even in the face of tremendous stress.
I am so blessed… Seeing them in loving action is the surest reminder that it IS, indeed, not only possible to live in love, but that the only way to TRULY live is through Love.
By the way, I love your new photo …AND the one of the bird on your hand
Robin Replies
Dear Julie, I’m thrilled by what you wrote here about your friends. The part that just stood out so strongly was when you wrote: “I’m reminded how important it is to have our purest and loftiest beliefs and faiths and certitudes be the center from which we shine. When things happen (and they do), we can remain solid and grounded SO easily as long as we have touch with the brightness within.” This is absolutely true. We must find the wisdom, love, compassion and forgiveness that we already ARE. When we can do this we are invincible. As you say, it doesn’t mean that “things” won’t “happen”; it just means that we then always have a core that anchors us, just as a ship can be anchored in a storm. We have a core that remains steadfast. —I too am blessed Julie as my sweetheart and I both have reached this place and we laugh and love and experience great peace no matter what happens. The world can swirl around us and it doesn’t matter, because it’s not who we are. WE are who we ARE. But then aren’t we all. LOL!! Hope you can follow that.

Dear Robin,
That is quite an interesting question… Who truly lives love in actions instead of just words?
Maybe the flowers the bloom even if nobody is watching. Or the trees that offer their shadow even if we don’t need it. Or the birds that sing on cloudy days. Nature lives love despite external conditions… But when it comes to us, living love every day, every moment is quite a hard task. I guess we will be on the way when we become less about ourselves and more about each other. Some few make it (like you). The others should watch and learn.
Congrats on the new header
Beautiful!
Best wishes,
Márcia
Robin Replies
Dear Márcia, What a truly unique insight. It is one I strongly connect to. After years of living in the wild I learned the amazingly selfless love of Nature, but then Nature is birthed from Love itself. We humans are also Nature and birthed from Love, but we have disconnected from our source and all to often forget who and what we really are. But only a breath away is our awakening. —Sometimes I hear people say that Mother Earth is angry with us for polluting her air, water, soil and so forth, and that she will seek revenge. But that is the thought of someone who does not know the infinite Love of Mother Earth. She is ONLY love. In fact Love is ALL that exists. The beauty of your writing reflects the beauty of your soul and brings an eternal sweetness with it.

I tear up on this one myself. I have known one face to face. That was my grandmother. She loved without words and unconditionally. I can write no more without crying.
There are two I have met in the blog world that one day I will meet. Miguel de Luis and Robin Easton. You both live life and feel life the way it should be felt. You give and give to those around you just by being there. When I am down I can go to either one of your blogs and just feel the comfort from just reading positive words. I smile when I see Miguel de Luis and his sharing of his heart as he writes. I smile when I come here to see you just smiling with laughter. You could just sit on the video saying nothing and I would take comfort in that.
Call this another emotional day and I will stop here. You know us women have those moments where we can cry at basically nothing. I guess today is my day. I am happy and crying too. Go figure?
Hugs to you Robin. I hope your walks are just as you hoped they would be.

Also, I am glad this was an emotional day for you; you have truly beautiful emotions. I am blessed to have no fear of emotions, in myself or others. They are a sign of great Life. Robin, thank you for this wonderful, inspirational article that made me remember many people who changed and influenced my destiny. It’s hard to choose, and it is also hard to explain why my Grandma was for me the most inspiring person in my life, when I actually chose to follow my father’s career. Well let’s put it this way: professionally, he is my role model. When it comes to who I want to be inside… my grandmother is the One! She taught me how to forgive, she taught me to be generous and to accept the the heavy rains calmly and solemnly as the Earth.
My mother taught me how to be a lady, leading by example. There were no “tutorials” involved. I just observed her from the distance.
Last, but not least, my partner, the man I call my soul-mate (I know many people don’t believe in this term, I will use it however) – is a true angel.
We have a lot to learn from each other, Robin, I see that our “sharing” links actually makes a difference. Thank you for this article!

Wisdom has many expressions. A wise person will not only act that way, but also speak that way. How could it be otherwise? The course of love is the highest form of wisdom and it does not need scholastic intelligence or impressive speech to support it. Jesus said it this way at 1Cor. 13:13 – “Now, however, there remain faith, hope, love, these three; BUT THE GREATEST OF THESE IS LOVE.”
Love is the greatest power in the universe and those who allow themselves to be filled to overflowing with it are the truly wise. What a nice article Robin!
Robin Replies
Dear Jonathan, This is beautiful! I enjoyed how you said: “A wise person will not only act that way, but speak that way. How could it be otherwise?” This is so true. Wisdom lived manifests in EVERYTHING we do and are. It simply IS. And it is whole and full and complete. I think the astounding power of Love is often underestimated: love in the face of hate, love in the face of violence, love in the face of all supposed loss of hope. I have seen the most astonishing miracles take place, seemingly impossible miracles take place in the presence of Love. As you say, it is the greatest power in the Universe. I believe the Universe is created from/by Love, IS Love. And Jonathan…thank you for your kind and encouraging words. They make me smile coming from a wise man.

Robin, again I am moved by your wise and loving words. You shine!
I know what you mean by tiring of words. I often get to that place as well, and feel that they cannot reach or even transform, the inner truths of the heart. Only love can do that. Love grows forgiveness and an acceptance of the human condition.
I turn to beauty to console myself, when all I can see among men and women is greed, coveting, duplicity, and self-serving and selfish deeds out of need.
And when I see faults in others, I remind myself that I too, am fallible. I know that the best way for us to get what we want, is to give ourselves that thing, and then give it to others.
I know you know that, too.
You are a wise and compassionate and sharing soul. My love to you.
Robin Replies
Dear Lynda, Wow! Thank you my artist-sage. This comment is a lovely as you and your art. Your art is a total expression of how you see the world and it is vibrant, color-filled and life-giving. I too turn to beauty and nature to console and replenish myself in a world that is, as you say, filled with the human condition(s). I really like what you wrote: “…when I see faults in others, I remind myself that I too, am fallible.” Yes, as I’ve grown older I too find myself (and I see it in my husband) looking at my own humanity to find the compassion to feel toward others. I had a couple of visions this past summer (while watching the sunrise) where I was so overcome with compassion for humanity that I stood in my yard and wept with overwhelming tenderness. In later years I’ve found that I am able to give that same compassion to myself. It is good feeling, one that instills peace and nurturing. —Yes, we must first be our own wise men and woman, treat ourselves with compassion, forgiveness and love, and then share it with others. My love to you also. And thank you for “seeing”.

(title) Take Time To
“We need to slow down…
Take time to think
Take time to play
Take time to be friendly
Take time to pray
Take time to love
Take time to give
Life is too short to be selfishly lived!
Don’t allow yourself to be hurried along!”
sure, we all get these nice thoughts sent to us, almost everyday. but this one seemed to stick for some reason. then i stumbled upon your page robin, challenging us to pick out an exceptional person who truly gives of themselves.
that’s a not an easy thing to do, as life is very difficult today. there is so much uncertainty in the world; most people are only interested in getting through the day. but sure, i do have a person whom i admire. he’s my uncle. he seems to be able to take life in stride and always has a kind word for everyone he meets. he has an enormous capacity for acceptance. and best of all, he takes people at face value. but beyond him, i admire most, the person who can reach out to help someone in need, without expecting anything in return. and with no need of recognition for a the kind act offered. that person expresses the most basic kind of humanity: quiet selflessness. thank you for causing us to take a moment to reflect on the most important aspects of being human, robin. you’re pretty special yourself. peace, rich
Robin Replies
Aww, what a treat to see you here my “Rich” friend. The words of this little poem you sent are so simple a child could have written them. There is no “pomp” about them. And….they say everything. While we adults endlessly ruminate the world’s philosophies, a child looks at a new playmate and says, “You wanna be friends?” “That’s okay, I forgive you.” “You wanna play with me?” A child reaches out and takes a hand of any color. As you know so well, it is not complex and sophisticated things that change lives; it is the simple things stated in this poem. Nonetheless, I have had people tell me that it is easier (and even an addiction) for them to keep looking for complex answers and more profound spiritual ways, to keep “searching” rather than simply “think, play, be friendly, pray, love and give”….right now.
I am touched by the story of your uncle. He sounds like a very peaceful soul, someone who is comfortable with himself and the world. I love that he has this enormous acceptance. People with that quality are one of the biggest gifts to humanity. They are the “Space-Makers”; their absence of judgment creates a HUGE space for others to open up and explore their feelings and lives, and to unburden their shameful or dark secrets so that they can be brought to light and let go. When we judge, we obviously judge ourselves but we also shove shinning gifts back into dark corners. It is SUCH an honor when someone bares their soul. If we are the recipient of this type of sharing we must recognize that the “other” is dredging up courage to seek freedom. We must recognize that their sharing or opening-up is one of Life’s greatest gifts. We can take great joy in knowing that we help set them free, and hence set ourselves free. Thank you my dear dear friend.

We are the ones that make the difference, we are the souls that speak… thanks Robin for being around and in your own lovely way, letting the people know they are loved and wise, compassionate and real more often then they imagine…in our everyday life we do things..a word, a deed, a thought, an action..we may not always know the value of it..but it plays a role somewhere..somehow…you got me going again…Peace

Dear Starflight, You are just amazing. So wise, loving, freethinking and free spirited, and poetic to top it off. There is SO much here that is powerful, but there is a theme that keeps occurring in your expressions, which I just adore. You do not seek to “tell” others “how” to be wise, you simply “be” it. That is just exciting!! You also so not take people’s power away from them by telling them “what truth is”. You continually tell them that THEY are already wise, they are already love, they are already everything they need. You wrote: “…trust yourself, take back your own power, believe your own wisdom..we are the heroes, we are living the most adventurous life here on earth.” Absolutely. I applaud you for this. I feel you spoke the words written on my heart. It is already in each of us. For me, this would be my grandmother. She was shy and quiet, yet very wise. There was something about her that even through all the garbage it couldn’t be stomped out almost like one of those candles that can’t be blown out. We moved from Cleveland to WV because of her. This taught me a love of nature and peace. There are times I could ramble on and on and she would tell me as we sat on our wood swing outside “Shhh… listen to the butterflies.” I would sit and wait patiently for the wind to whistle as butterflies flap their wings.

Ooooh dear Shirley, this is soooo beautiful. I wondered if you would think of your grandmother, because I thought of her also while writing this. She was deep and had a grace, integrity and dignity that got her through, as you say, even the garbage. You know, my dear friend, that you have the same indomitable spirit that she had. It shines through you like the first sun rays peeking over the mountain on a summer morning. I see you and am moved to tears. Ever since you told me about “listening to butterflies” I have thought of that many times, and always hoped you would write it. Remember how I told you that you should save it and write it down. Well, I am SO honored that have shared it here. You could do a whole kids book called: “Listening to Butterflies”. Aaaah, that is so magical. Something most people wouldn’t even think of. And so, your grandmother lives on through you, and you through her. Just beautiful. Tears in my eyes. Thank you.

I do, however, usually feel deep love and passion for life and humanity and go away from writing feeling changed and invigorated. In love with Life. Know that you also have made my day and I am very thankful for that.

Robin dearest…:)~ Truly, besides just little you? Ha!~Your splendid & don’t all posting here know that!~ Okay, now that that’s out of the way…hhhmm.
My ‘person of the week’, or the like~is someone whom does not know me. As a matter of fact, most would probably agree, she is someone who’s face & quiet demeanor would be of such that perhaps no one would remember her, nothing outstanding. She is apparently of her own, & of herself.
Yet she is always there. Her vigilance, her smile, her patience~always omni-present. Dutiful, & never calls off. She smiles at everyone whom passes. She offers an ear to the troubled, & the lost. When in her presence, one cannot help but be taken by a feeling of over-whelming peace & compassion really. Even though, they may not understand this feeling in it’s entirety, it none the less shows on their facial expression while the act is at hand, in her presence. Somehow after an encounter with her they are in peace. She is an instrument of sorts through which peace, order & calm are instilled. She is on the corner every morning without fail, & back again in the afternoon on the same corner, no matter the weather.
On the days where there is no call for her professionalism, she can be found serving, once again. & perhaps to the same blank faces. Faces of those which mainly over look hers, perhaps. As in someone who just is always there, & of course, will always be there. Little do they understand. Yet without knowing or understanding how, if she were NOT there, their little lives for that day, would not be complete without her smile, her genuine kindness, her voice~& her stories that always bring laughter.
Her name is Anne. She is retired. She lives alone. She works for the public school system, & is a cross-guard. The neighborhood is inner-city, & is no stranger to trouble. Of which many on that corner are aware, day or night. She is a beacon of light. Testimony that ‘ a tree can indeed, grow in Brooklyn’ my friend. She knows her trees well, & crosses them every day into safety. & on days there is no school, she serves in the kitchen at the local salvation army. She doesn’t miss a beat. & in my book, her servitude & love for humanity, will be known proudly. A silent, invisible perhaps, yet beacon of light, & kindness toward all her fellow man young & old.
This is for her!:)

Dear David, how special you are. It is the end of my day, and it has been long and a bit stressful. I didn’t get much sleep last night and I woke to a leaking hot water tank. All of which I take in stride as it’s not the focus of my life. BUT, when I came here to shut down my computer and I read this I felt like and angel had come into my office and gentle brushed back my hair, the way a loving mother would do for a child. I felt like an angel whispered, “There is still love in the world, so much love.” I have tears running down my face right now. Beautiful, wonderful tears.
I don’t know which touched me more. Anne being who she is or you being who YOU are and really seeing Anne and loving her for it. By you sharing this story I feel like I am touched by Love. A love so pure that it weaves it’s way through all of humanity, tying us all together like a string of luminescent pearls. I felt a great wave of peace and deep safety reading…no, “feeling” this story.
You say, “…a silent, invisible perhaps, beacon of light.” Think about this, David. It was NOT invisible because YOU saw Anne and her light. It might be only ONE soul, yours, who saw her light, but then you took that light and shared it here with me and others who will read this. So Anne’s light became your light and then became my light and then became the light of the world…. THAT my friend is truly powerful.
Wherever you are Anne, you are seen.

I really needed that last paragraph that began with: I often grow weary of words no matter how wise or beautiful. *smile* Thank you! You just gave me an incredible confirmation with the sentiments presented there.
I have someone in my life, someone I love so very much, who cannot hear/understand the words I use when I try to communicate with him. I’m not exactly sure of the reason, but there is a definite communication issue at the moment, and has been for some time now. Tonight I realized (yet again) that instead of TELLING him, I need to SHOW him what I mean by living my beliefs and allowing him to see what that entails and how much it means to me.
Timing, as always, is divine… but thank you again!
Robin Replies
Dear Penny, welcome to my little Eden.
It is a joy and wonderful surprise to see you here. You will meet many kindred souls. Your comment resonates deeply with me. You are a wise soul. I really believe in the power of modeling our beliefs to someone. There is nothing more powerful to see than someone “living”, really living what they believe in. Words can get thrust aside or simply not go in. I too have learned to communicate with my actions. I spent a lot of time in the wild with very few words, no books, computers, phones etc., and when I came back into American culture I felt bombarded with words both spoken and written, in all their forms. I realized that people become almost immune to words because they hear and see so many everyday. But actions have a way of bypassing the brain and speak directly to the heart, where they are “felt” and much harder to ignore. Also, actively living “our” truth makes us stronger and more of who we really are. Thank you for sharing here Penny, and reminding us all of the vital truth.

Hi Robin,
After a long day of listening and reflection, I am blown away by your words and these wonderful comments. Sometimes loving oneself, being patient, and compassionate to myself seems far more difficult than doing that for others. On the upbeat, I also learned from myself, the dali lama (in a dream), and a lecture I attended just why this might be, aaand how to let go, rest, and start loving here at home. Also EFT really helps. Glad to have you in my life! Mary
Robin replies
Heeeeey my dear Mary, This is a wonderful morning treat to have you drop in! I am so honored by your words here, and yes, the souls that visit here are just off-the-charts-amazing. I am over and over moved to joy, tears, laughter, awe and more. The world is FULL of incredible people. —Yes, I think you are right about it sometimes being harder for us to be compassionate and loving with ourselves than with others. But we must be loving and so gentle with ourselves, even if we have to look at ourselves as if we were a close friend. If we can do this then we DO become our own closest friend. When we learn to love ourselves and be gentle we fill to bursting with Love and must share it with the world. We want to hug and love everyone everywhere we go. The love is to great to contain in one mortal body. So in essence we offer the world, the Universe the most essential gift when we love ourselves. The Universe smiles upon us for doing do so. I can promise you this. And you, my dear friend, are so worthy of love. Since we have not hugged in person for awhile, I am sending you a HUGE hug. I too am glad to have YOU in my life; you are never far away.

Hi Robin, Maria G. sent me your blog message–thanks to both of you. Given your history, no wonder you communicate with, emote with words that resonate on many planes. Sometimes words are necessary for those who have yet to tap into their “inwardness” in a way that resonates with Truth for them. Sometimes words, especially when we do connect with them in heart space, are all that is needed to Light the path, the way, for us. You’ve hit the key, using words that come from the real you; from deep inward. So, yes, YOU are the one that’s like this, as is anyone else who resonates with your intention and loving conveyance. For me, it’s not about finding the sacred in the mundane, but rather that it’s all sacred. I’ve included a piece from Oriah Mt. Dreamer you and your readers might like–about relationships. She, too, communicates with many layers of meaning–lovely.
Oriah, the Mountain Dreamer
It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for, and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing.
It doesn’t interest me how old you are.
I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dream, for the adventure of being alive.
It doesn’t interest me what planets are squaring your moon.
I want to know if you have touched the center of your own sorrow, if you have been opened by life’s betrayals or have become shriveled and closed from fear of further pain! I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own, without moving to hide it or fade it, or fix it. I want to know if you can be with joy, mine or your own, if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you
to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful, to be realistic, to remember the limitations of being human.
It doesn’t interest me if the story you are telling me is true.
I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself; if you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul; if you can be faithless and therefore trustworthy.
I want to know if you can see beauty even when it’s not pretty, every day, and if you can source your own life from its presence.
I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine, and still stand on the edge of the lake and shout to the silver of the full moon, “Yes!”
It doesn’t interest me to know where you live or how much money you have.
I want to know if you can get up, after the night of grief and despair, weary and
bruised to the bone, and do what needs to be done, with me, to feed the children.
It doesn’t interest me who you know or how you came to be here.
I want to know if you will stand in the center of the fire with me
and not shrink back.
It doesn’t interest me where or what or with whom you have studied.
I want to know what sustains you, from the inside, when all else falls away.
I want to know if you can be alone with yourself and if you truly like
the company you keep in the empty moments.
Last, I invite you to my presentation, Aware in a World Asleep, held on Tue. April7, 7 PM at the Center for Spiritual Living, 505 Camino De Los Marquez. I hope to see you there. I’m sure you would add immense benefit to all who attend. Again, thanks for sharing the real you. You are an inspiration. Jim :>)

Thanks so much for this reminder that there is still so much good in the world. I will not even try to add much to the articulate responses you have received but was compelled to show my appreciation. I have enjoyed following your writing for a while now.
The souls you speak of are those that make the indelible marks on our hearts. We cross paths with many who readily say they are living Love but when we are touched by the authentic giver, we will remember them forever.
Namaste my friend

Dear Roger, I am touched and honored to see you here. You have a beautiful blog, The Conservative Buddhist. I find your words both on your blog and here in this comment, humble and heartfelt. And yes, the souls who live thusly are unforgettable, they touch our lives in the simplest and yet most profound way. I think your word “authentic” really fits, because when we meet someone who lives their authentic self, a self with little ego involved, there is at once great peace and joy. They move through the world filling each heart they touch with love and compassion. We never forget them; they become part of who we are. Thank you Roger, you voice is very welcome here.

I’m particularly touched by the fact that though we don’t necessarily share identical religious perspectives (considering the fact that I’m a Pastor, and she’s probably a spiritualist…I don’t know and it’s not important to me) She comes across to me as one of those truly wise fellows moving on this planet.

Excellent reflective questions! Thank you as always and wishing you blue skies and sunny smiles

Mi querida Robin,
This is so true. We should live LOVE.
Life has been complicated lately, and lovely nature has been neglected by this girl, I confess ![]()
I’m currently trying to move forward and not be so affected by things happening to or around me, my family or my friends… but I can’t.
I so want to be of help and it is frustrating not to be able to. I want to live love, my friend, and I’m not sure if I’m able to…
Besos,
Mel
p.s. On a brighter note, my dear Tommy is back after six months away and I hope to dedicate more time to personal projects… I need a change SOON.
Robin Replies
Dear beautiful Mel, I am touched by this honest poignant sharing. First off, I would have to say that to be YOU, is to BE Love. You already are those things my querida. It’s just who you are. Kindness shines from you into all those around you. Sometimes it can be hard when we can’t help another. sometimes we just have to let go. Make sure you are taking care of YOU. You deserve to look after yourself and live YOUR life in the way that you need to so that you feel happy, full of Life and at peace. If we don’t give this to ourselves it is almost impossible to give it to another person. Sometimes it is easier for us to give to others than to give to ourselves. I wish for you courage to make the changes that you need to that will instill Life in you and bring you joy and peace. I am also so glad that Tommy is home. Make sure you take time to be kind, loving and forgiving to yourself. And enjoy your precious time with Tommy. Life is too short to do otherwise. Besos my dear Mel

Robin, every now and then I spot someone walking along the sidewalk, or in a store, or somewhere anywhere, who really moves me. We’ll connect by looking at one another, and then there is a smile, and I could honestly get lost in their eyes. It’s like true wisdom and love looking at me – as if I know them, without knowing them. I’m always startled by this when it happens. It’s not as if they are doing something kind, or really doing anything at all. It’s the smile, the eyes, the knowingness of them, that makes me feel the pure joy.
I think there are people around everywhere who are so connected to themselves and to everything and everyone else, that they just exude this in their every day existence. Just to see them is enough. To be around them everyday would be a blessing.
I believe that everyone on earth has this energy – some less obvious than others. But everyone has the capability of this, and unfortunately this spirit/wisdom/love gets flattened by modern society and fast-paced living.
I see you as one of these blessed people. You are inspiring! Love and peace to you always, my dear friend!

Dear Ophelia, You are indeed a sensitive and aware soul. You move through the world aware of it all. And even though also are aware of the suffering and things that need changing you are ALWAYS aware of the beauty. I love that about you. Yes, there are so many beautiful souls who are connected to themselves and the world. I am always amazed at the beauty I see in people. You are right in that when we just see these souls or to connect of a single moment or an hour they are unforgettable. It is a blessing. To have them in our lives everyday is astounding. I also believe that it is who we all ARE. When we truly see ourselves we can be nothing but awed by the magnificent beauty of who we are, and what we are part of…the Great Mystery. I believe that is what we are here to see, awaken to. Once we see it in ourselves we see it in everything and everyone. You are one of these blessed people in my life, right from the start…and always. And yes, love and peace to you my dear friend.

Hi Robin.
Your article is a timely one. Many people are seeking a way back to a more simple life, one with out the dash and flash.
There are many of these people in my own life and your article is an important reminder to stop and give gratitude those humble souls.
You said it best when you talked of growing weary of words. Even though I am a word smith I know what you mean.
To do, to act, to love and forgive in a simple uncelebrated moment is to feel the sea of infinity wash through the soul. Ahhh! peace.
Nick
Robin Replies
Dear Nick, You wrote: “To do, to act, to love and forgive in a simple uncelebrated moment is to feel the sea of infinity wash through the soul.” You are definitely a wordsmith. I felt this line in my gut when I read this, an immediate “feeling” response. It made me feel loved, infinite, eternal and profoundly safe. What makes you such an extraordinary wordsmith is that you so often “emote” your insights right from your heart into the hearts of your readers. I have felt this on many occasions while reading your insights. It is simple and uncomplicated and doesn’t force me into my brain to understand and then translate what you are saying into “feelings”. Phew! That can be exhausting. You simply speak your heart in a way that allows me to stay in my heart and “feel” in my soul what you are sharing. Such a beautiful gift. As you say, “Ahhh! Peace.” Yes, very much so.
PS: I also am finding that people are seeking a more simple direct way, a more heartfelt way, one in keeping with the simple flow and truth of Life, the Universe. I am finding this more and more every single day.

How very thought provoking. My dear late Father always taught me to put myself in others shoes before making any judgment, this has had a profound effect and has (I hope) made me a compassionate person who feels others pain, sometimes a little too much for my own comfort.
I do think if we all treated others as we would wish to be treated the world would be a much less complicated place.
Robin Replies
Dear Jan, It is wonderful to see you here. I am honored. You have a lovely site. I am moved by your sharing. Your father sounds like he was a deeply kind man who listened to and lived from his heart. It is such a huge gift he gave you. That gift is definitely evident both here in this sharing and on your site. I felt it the moment I visited you. And now you pass it on to others. It goes to show how important the things we teach our children, and how far reaching they can be. I also understand being so open as to feeling others pain, even over great distance. I too experience this and continually do a dance that mingles both being open and feeling others pain and letting go so as not to become too drained. Feeling others pain is a small price to pay for being so open that we experience the unbridled passion of Life.

To tell you the truth, I know none, no one I can think off that shows love, don’t know if I don’t look hard enough, but I don’t think there are a lot of these kinds left on mother earth. But..
If I have to think of someone, i would say, like so many of your readers, that you are the perfect example! Your love for nature manifests on this blog. I have never (that i can think of) read anywhere on your blog about any complaints you have, or anything bad at all, all good and all your words filled with love!
you are the perfect example, and might very well be the last of your kind left on this earth!

My dear amazing “HE”, I hardly know where to start. I sit with tears in my eyes and am touched by so many things in this heartfelt comment. First I have known you to be nothing but deeply sincere, kind, forgiving and honest, qualities that are commendable and healing for others to be around. I have often found that if I take the initiative around others and reach out and model love, that something in them awakens and they begin to follow suit. They begin to awaken and start to realize that someone cares, that love exists, that there is hope and goodness in the world. They will become what we too seek. They become who they REALLY are. I find kindness and love the easiest things to share, but often people have forgotten how to love or even about love. By modeling what we want from others, others often become what we also need. And we also become more of we really are. Maybe you are meant to be a leader or initiator of love. I do know that you see the world through very special eyes and have much to offer others.
Also, there really aren’t words to express how touched I am by your kind and generous words. They made me take another serious look at myself and also invited me to claim who I am and want to be in the world. You made me realize once again how everything we do ripples out and effects the world around us (even when we don’t necessarily know it or see it). You have given me a huge gift and much to think about. Things that will help me grow and become more loving and aware. Thank you, He, so very much.

People who do, care and have love for others, whether through deed or action, rarely share this activity with others. If they do tout these characteristics, all their efforts are lost in self-proclamation.
Therefore, how would I know if they had these qualities or not?

Dear Teresa, Welcome. And thank you for this very wise comment. I have found as I get older that there is something about these loving, compassionate and wise souls that SHINES. By “shine” I don’t mean that they are flashy, vocal or demonstrative, rather (for me) they radiate a great warmth, a deep peace, they feel like an endless star-filled night sky or woodland air after heavy rain. Beautiful post Robin. Words are indeed poor things in the vastness of love but we have hitched humanity’s wagon to words and so here we are, an impoverished species. There are times though that a certain heart felt yadayadayada will plant a seed that will flourish in another heart and there are many times when a smile will do the same. You my friend are a master of both. Thank you.
