What is Intimacy?

Posted by Robin Easton

“A compilation of your intimate thoughts, insights and experiences.”
(IF THE VIDEO IS BUFFERING: You can hit pause and wait for it to fully load while you read the text, and then come back and watch it. That way you won’t watch it in “starts and stops”. Enjoy, Robin.)

My beautiful friends, This “Intimacy Contest” was deeply moving for me. I felt touched by the Creator while reading your comments…and responding to them. I’ve had an enormous work load lately and had almost no time for blogging. Yet, I felt tremendously connected to you, far beyond the ethers of the internet. I read all your comments to my sweetheart. He was “stilled” by your beauty. It’s as if on a soul level you all have been with me this last week, supporting me and instilling Life into me.

I’ve created a slide show using the comments of people who wrote specifically about intimacy. It is my heartfelt gift to you. I hope you experience the beauty I experience in you. I’ve only used your avatar name or first name. I had to edit many comments and condense sentences to a line or two as there were so many. The rest of you that left other types of comments deeply touched me by your richly kind and supportive words.

The music to this video is a song titled, “Rainforest Mist”. The original song has words and is played on a piano. But for this video I wanted something more intimate so I hummed the song. There is no piano and no words. To me humming — with no instrumentals — left me feeling vulnerable. I think to fully embrace intimacy we must allow ourselves to experience vulnerability, heart to heart and soul to soul. So in humming this song I share my soul. While doing this slide show I felt overwhelming love for you all. You are each unique and infinitely beautiful. I’m honored to know you.

NOW, for the winner! I typed out the names of everyone who left a comment and then cut them, folded each name in half and put them into my Australian “Snowy River” hat. Then I mixed them all up, set the hat on my piano keys, sat on the floor — so I couldn’t see — and then picked a name. My heart was POUNDING. I was a wreck!! “How do people do this?” Especially when you love all the people in the hat. My sweetheart called right after I drew the winner and asked, “Are you okay? You sound a bit shaky or breathless.” When I told him I’d just drawn the winner, he laughed and said, “Yeah, that must be hard.”

So, the winner is EDDIE of THE CLIFF WALK eddie (who spells his name with a small e) is a highly unique and creative photographer. He forever delights me with how he sees the world…and WHAT he sees in the world. If you’ve not met him, go explore his site – THE CLIFF WALK. You won’t regret it. Congratulations eddie! You are the proud owner of a new t-shirt! (chuckles).

I thank you all for sharing a part of yourselves with me. I find myself profoundly honored and moved by your souls. I will have more contests and surprises coming down the road. So stay tuned my dear dear friends.  I hope to visit you soon.

Love,
Robin

Too bad I missed the contest. It’s interesting not to look at intimacy from the normal angle of lovers and spouses. Intimacies with God’s other given gifts in this world are always overlooked. You have started a great effort.

I really enjoyed the exercise, Robin. Thanks for doing this. I plan to make the idea of setting a journal entry to a word a habit.

That was Beautiful.
This may not be the place but can you tell me more about wordpress, and how to post videos in it?
I would really like to know how to move my blogs to hear. About 5 of them are not going to change and I wish were more widely read.

Robin, Robin… That was simply wonderful. Your haunting melody and clear voice were the perfect complements. But the WORDS!… They became so HUGE, so filled with massive feeling when pulled from the fluff of the rest of the paragraphs. Standing alone as they do in your video…well, they become wisdom. Imagine; we did that. Who’d have thunk it, that ordinary people could have such beauty within. ;) You did, that’s who. Well, of course we all knew it, too, but you’re the one who knocked on our doors, inviting us to play. Thank you, Robin!

Your creative gestures inspire and strengthen the souls of your readers. When you work with the subtle energies that are revelaed in a person’s thoughts, you are slowy gaining insight into a deeper spirit inside yourself. With each blogpost, you invite each person to expand and choose to explore the world they create. Each being is in the midst of an intricate dance of physial and emotional pain and healing at the same time. Everything is connected. As you set deliberate intention to heal yourself, each activity you engage in is connected with your process.

Robin

What an inspiring video! The words are so moving and I felt your song run through my body as I heard it, really making me feel relaxed, soothed and balanced. We don’t always need words to communicate a feeling, and you have proved that perfectly in this post.

Thank you.

Robin, I must deeply apologize to you for being so absent. I did read your recent posts, and wanted so much to respond, but wanted to think about it before I did, and time seemed to just go. I love your exquisite voice, and the lovely collage of thoughts and photos here from the amazing people who respond to you. You continually inspire and amaze me, and I am thankful for you.

I just wanted to add that the thought of intimacy helps me a great deal in my life lately, as I feel as if I tend to bulldoze my way through the days sometimes, as if I am in a race and need to win something – (The prize of getting the most things accomplished in a day? The most cups of tea consumed in an afternoon? The honor of being the most exhausted as I fall into bed?) – and not paying attention. I feel as if the intimacy can be in the taking care, the tenderness of moments, of freeing my mind so much that I am not separate, but become everything. The light, the clouds, the darkness, the trees, my children, wind, breath – everything that is here. I had caught glimpses of this when I was deep into my meditation practice years ago, where I felt as if there were no boundaries between me and anything else, and how that feeling made me just joyous and absolutely ecstatic. There are no words for that feeling. But intimacy comes close.

I wrote a poem about this (again, years ago).

Thank you for letting me be here in this life
with no boundaries
where breath, like wind,
is shared
in warmth and rhythm
and as my heart opens
the boundaries will melt away.
Everyone is me.
And I am everyone.

That wasn’t humming. That was your soul singing us all awake! Beautiful. The perfect accompaniment for this video.

Thank you for distilling and compiling everyone’s comments in such a creative way, Robin. You have a gift for creating an environment here in Eden that really encourages each individual’s precious Light to shine. Such a blessing.

Only Love,

Under the tramp Bridge in Petaluma a Small Mountian Lion crossed over me one night. It was a great site to see. There was a river which passed by the Bridge also. Many as me had had to spend a night under it from time to time. At least we knew we were safe from anyone under there.

Hi Robin,
I am so sorry I missed out on your contest, I have just been so busy lately. I look foward to you having another one and I will particpate. I loved this video, moved me to tears. Your humming speaks to me that of a beautiful soul. Eckhart Tolle’s book a new earth helped me to reconnect or have intimacy with nature and all living things. We are taught as a child to see the tree, we are never taught to feel the tree, it’s life, it’s energy and how we are all connected. I view every living thing that way now, intimacy is a wonderful way to live your life everyday.
Janet :)
